This week has been the most exciting week of production so far! I was able to shoot B-Roll of Jason and his family having dinner and playing a board game together. I was going to get B-Roll of Franco and his family too but they got sick and so he could not meet with me anymore but in my edit I decided to cut some of his interview out to fit some more of Jayson's and my own comments. I had the script due after this week so I had to pull together my story a lit better and cut out a lot of the fluff to try and get down to less than seven minutes. I started to get into sound design just a little more and I AM FEELING IT!! I have struggled every time to open my edit and work on it, but as soon as I started to focus on sound I got so excited to see it coming together and I can finally feel the story and emotion coming through.
The biggest challenge I faced this week was trying to figure out what to cut out and include in my edit. I remember during one of my meetings with my professor he recommended that I focus in more on the hero and less on random people so I completely removed a montage of smiling and sad people that I had in and shortened it to a simple, beautiful intro that pivots on a quote I loved and related to my interviews so well. I decided to also make a special effect with my face and water dropping, but that effect is taking a little longer to figure out than I thought it would so I have a placeholder in my edit right now that I feel like visually represents some of my internal feelings. But I still wanted to give you a super short preview. Remember this intro part doesn't have the best lighting and I'm still working on color so don't judge too harshly.
I also recorded my wrap up and a few comments that I had about what was said to try and connect the dots of ideas shared in the interviews and provide a summary so it's easier to digest and focus on the hero character. I focused on my lighting a lot more with this part and so I have a behind the scenes video of what my lighting setup looked like.
